In many situations wireless microphone transmissions must be kept private so that only those in the room can hear what is being said. With normal RF wireless microphones, private transmissions are not possible because they will transmit through walls and can be picked up by anyone scanning that frequency with a simple to purchase scanner.
One solution to this problem is infrared wireless microphones. These make the use of infrared (light) technology, which cannot be picked up outside of the room in which it is being used.
